Should You Choose Between Hair or Makeup?

Hi Ladies!

Happy New Year! If you have not met me yet, my name is Domenica, and I am the owner/founder of Domenica Beauty. The beginning of the year is a very busy time in the wedding world as everyone gets engaged around the holidays and the new year. If you are reading this, chances are you just got engaged, so let me be the first one to congratulate you from the DB Team!

We know you have waited a very long time for this moment, and we want to help guide you with all your hair and makeup needs for the perfect wedding day (and we want to celebrate with you too)!! As your bridal beauty experts, we want to make sure you are covered from head to toe for all your beauty needs. I recently saw a blog post the other day that really troubled me. The post advised upcoming brides to opt for makeup services on their wedding day and forgo professional hair services. The post claimed that with the right lighting and a simple curl in your hair, you can easily save some money on your big day. I have to admit, I almost died right there in my chair. I was so shocked to see that brides we being advised to pick one service over the other for their wedding day.

Would you order a cake that is only half decorated?

Would you hire a band and only have their provide instruments?

Would you hire a photographer and have them stay for three hours of your six-hour day?

You would not do any of those things! So why would you only get half of the beauty services that you need? You cannot have amazing hair and mediocre makeup or a super glam makeup look and plain hair! You want to have a whole and completed look.

I know some people might disagree with me, so let’s go over the benefits of getting both hair and makeup services:

  1. Your confidence - Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror when you put on an amazing dress? You automatically have that sense of being able to take over the world! You do not want to be worrying about how you look on your big day (trust me, there are other things to worry about). With both your hair and makeup done, your confidence will be through the roof. You will instantly feel like the unstoppable warrior princess you are when walking down that aisle!

  2. Photo and video - You are investing a good chunk of money in your photos and maybe even video. You want to make sure you look your best in those permanent records of your big day. Making sure that your hair and makeup are on point is WAYYY less expensive than getting all of your photos touched up.

  3. We are the professionals - Plain and simple, there is a lot happening on your wedding day. You hug so many people (probably several times), you will probably cry (happy tears of course), and you are going to be walking to and fro going from one activity to the next (or from one picture opportunity to the next). As a professional hair and makeup team, it is our job to make sure your hair and face keep up with you all day and night! Trust us, it’s our job!

  4. Value - Hair and makeup services are a small fraction of wedding budgets. Lots of brides wait until a couple of months before their wedding to inquire about HMU services. At this point, most brides already have contracts and deposits put down with other vendors. Contact us as soon as you book a venue (that way you are sure we are available for that date as well), and you can budget us into your day! Save $5-$10 a week (aka don’t get Starbucks once or twice a week), and by the time your wedding comes around, you have saved more than enough for your full beauty services! Skip getting coffee three times a week and you can even get the full lashes, custom extensions, and airbrush makeup treatment too!

We are here to be your bridal beauty experts. We want you to feel and look confident and amazing on your wedding day! I am not trying to be harsh, but that article really shocked me. We would hate for you to look at your wedding pictures 10 or 20 years down the road and regret those couple cups of coffees you got instead of the full pampering service. If I wasn’t a professional, I would want someone to tell me what I am telling you.

Until next time: XOXO
