Mask Breakouts? We Don't Know Her!

Ok, we know the world is a little crazy right now, and none of us are wearing these masks for fun. They are super important, and you can totally accessorize them to enhance your fashion style. Once you take your mask off however, what you find under might make you want to burn them all: breakouts!

Unfortunately, mask breakouts can happen to the best of us. Since we are wearing them all day, everyday, and for the last two months, breakouts are sometimes unavoidable. We are here to help you stay safe while also maintaining flawless skin!

What type of masks help prevent breakouts?

The three most common masks are the medical, cloth, and silk face masks. The ultimate favorite are the silk masks. Silk masks are gentle on your skin (no matter what type of skin you have), and they will help to prevent breakouts. Silk masks are smooth, breathable, and do not hold onto dirt or grime. Paper masks do not breath as well and tend to hold on to dirt, oil, and sweat. Everything that gets trapped in those paper masks in turn clogs your pores causing breakouts.

One of our favorite places to get silk masks is from Lily Silk Masks. We suggest getting at least two masks. With more than one mask, you can swap out your mask as often as possible, and wash the dirty one. By doing this, you will avoid any built up gunk that can clog your pores!

Are there any products to help prevent breakouts?

There are two things, we suggest. You will be happy to know that you already have one! First and foremost, as with all skin care: hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate! Wearing your facemask all day can irritate and rub your skin. Plump, hydrated skin will get irritated much less quickly! So do not forget to drink your water!

Second, we recommend using a hydrating night cream to help replenish your first layer of skin. Additionally, stay away from products with coconut oil as they clog your pores. An amazing night cream is Monat’s Night Haven Cream. It is an all natural, light, and replenishing cream. This cream is infused with Jojoba oil which is an anti-inflammatory. Jojoba oil also reduces redness, chafing, and even eases the effects of rosacea or eczema. It will keep your pores clear and help prevent future breakouts!

What is the best face wash to avoid breakouts?

We suggest using a more gentle cleanser for daily face wash. You want to make sure your face wash does not leave your skin feeling dry, cracky or oily. If you need a little more oomf in your face wash, look for one with a small amount of Salicylic Acid. The Salicylic Acid will really penetrate your skin, clean your pores, and eliminate anything that would cause breakouts.

For daily use, we suggest against retinol or benzoyl peroxide products as they are harsher on the skin for daily use and can lead to dry and cracked skin. Some of our favorite face washes are listed below:

We hope these beauty tips help you to achieve your perfect skin while still staying safe during these troubled times. Also, if you are looking for a new skin care regiment, we partner with Monat and are happy to create the perfect skincare routine personalized to your skin type!

Until next time: XOXO
