Top 6 Questions to Ask Your Hair and Makeup Artist

With Pinterest, Instagram, and new hair and makeup trends coming out every day, there are so many things to consider when trying to find a professional hair and makeup artist for your big day!

Between, finding your venue, finding all your vendors, shopping for your dress or attire, planning, and everything else you have to do, we want to help you find the hair and makeup artist who will fit you the best! Here are our top 6 questions YOU need to ask your hair and makeup artist:

Do I need a licensed or certified artist?

This is one of the most important questions to consider when looking for a hair and makeup artist. Anyone can market themselves as an artist, but the real advantage to a certified artist is that that artist has the proper knowledge and experience to correctly apply makeup and style hair no matter the skin type or hair texture of their client to make them look and feel beautiful.

Will my makeup last all day and is my makeup waterproof?

No matter what kind of event you are attending, your wedding, a corporate party, or a photo shoot, the last thing you want to have to worry about is how your hair and makeup are holding up. Domenica Beaty team member Lanie says that with the right products, your hair and makeup CAN last all day and can be waterproof. No matter what life throws at you that day, you will still look amazing! Lanie suggest her clients get airbrush makeup for their big day! The silicon-based makeup is long lasting and does not move even if you sweat. Depending on your skin type you might need a little powder touch up to reduce any excess oil or a lip touch up, but with the right products, you can enjoy your event while looking flawless all night long!

Do you recommend a facial before the wedding?

There are a couple of things you can do leading up to your big day in order to help your artist make you look as stunning as possible. One of the most common questions we get asked is about facials. Domenica Beauty team member Natalie definitely suggests getting a facial! She recommends getting your facial about two weeks before your big day. However, you also want to get that same facial a couple months before your big day to make sure you do not have any negative reactions to that particular service. Since everyone’s face is unique, getting your facial treatment a couple of months before ensures you do not have any surprises a couple of weeks before your big day!

Should I get a hair and makeup preview or no?

A professional hair and makeup artist should ALWAYS require a preview. Just like you get your dress fitted and altered, you want to make sure you have a trial run with your artist to make sure they know what you want and so you know what you are getting. Your preview is where you and your artist can try out a couple of different ideas so you can as stunning as possible!

Should I wear fake lashes?

Absolutely! DB team member Lanie says that she usually gets this question with her brides! The eyes are a focal point for the face so it is very important to focus on the eyes. By adding some fake lashes it opens up the eye area and makes your eyes look bigger by framing them. She says that adding fake lashes is an easy way to enhance your natural beauty, add some glam, and take your makeup look to the next level.
